Need to Surrender a Ferret?

****PLEASE NOTE - THE RESCUE IS CURRENTLY EXTREMELY FULL. WE ARE PRIORITISING EMERGENCIES AND WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE IN SURRENDERED FERRETS. WE WILL PRIORITISE EMERGENCES SUCH AS STRAY ANIMALS AND THOSE AT RISK OF ABANDONMENT OR HARM. As a rescue we are responsible for the ferrets in our care and it is very important that we do not over stretch resources. This means that we can only take in ferrets if we have the cage space and the financial resources to pay for their care, neutering, vaccination and microchip.

We understand that sometimes the unexpected happens and circumstances change meaning you can no longer look after your ferrets. Taking action by contacting an rescue is a responsible decision to make. We will not judge you and will always talk you through your options to find out how best we can help. In return, we ask that you are honest and open with your pet's information. Nothing you say will lead to your surrender application being rejected so please be honest. This then means we can offer your ferret the best care possible.

The Process

To surrender a ferret, we ask that you complete this APPLICATION FORM. We will then be in touch as soon as we have space. In the case that we are particularly full we may place your ferrets into foster care. If your situation is not urgent, we will advise you of the waiting time and add you to our waiting list. Please note that during breeding season (February to September) we are often extremely busy and waiting times will be longer. When you surrender your pet, there is no fee, but donations are always appreciated. Please make it clear on your application if you are NOT able to transport your pet to us and will require a volunteer to collect them (please be prepared to cover mileage costs).

We understand that surrendering a much loved ferret can be a very upsetting time. Our volunteers will all be on hand to make the experience as stress-free as possible for both you and your pet in a safe environment, free from judgement.

You are welcome to request updates to hear about your pet's progress while they are in our care, however our main priority is the care of the animals and we may not always have time to respond immediately.

If you are considering rehoming your pet but are unsure, please feel free to CONTACT US.

Terms and Conditions

Once you sign your ferret over to Little Paws Ferret Rescue, we take over the legal ownership. If the ferret is microchipped we will transfer the details over to the rescue. If requested, you will need to agree to the transfer. Once the animal has been surrendered, you cannot change your mind and take your pet back (unless it is agreed by the trustees and only in certain circumstances). It is important to understand that you have now legally signed over your pet to Little Paws Ferret Rescue, therefore relinquishing all rights of ownership to them. As a rule, we do not allow animals to be reclaimed once they have been brought into us for rehoming. We would, therefore, encourage you to ensure that you have carefully thought through your decision prior to contacting us.

In very special circumstances and only for a short amount of time, we may decide to foster your ferrets to allow you to get back on your feet. This MUST be agreed prior to bringing them in and should be a short term arrangement. Please contact us for more information and be prepared to make donations to cover their subsistence.

Please note, currently due to the number of ferrets we have in rescue, we are unable to accept surrendered ferrets. This is a temporary measure but essential to protect and care for the animals in rescue!
